Course Syllabus 

Upper School Wind Ensemble

It is expected that Upper School Wind Ensemble students will attend and perform in the scheduled concerts for the school year. Unexcused absence will result in a downward adjustment of the final grade.

Concert Dress

The standard dress for MPH Wind Ensemble is black pants, white dress shirt (tucked in), black shoes and socks for men. Women may choose to wear a long black skirt or black pants with a white blouse and dark colored shoes. All jewelry should be tasteful and kept to a minimum. 

Goals

Ø       To advance student proficiency on a musical instrument.

Ø       To perform a wide variety of wind band literature.

Ø       To prepare for concerts, all-county festivals, all-state festivals and NYSSMA solo festivals.

 

Course Objectives

In order to meet the stated goals students will

      Ø       participate in a warm-up routine consisting of long tone, tonguing, flexibility and scale exercises.

Ø       attend each rehearsal with his/her music folder, musical instrument and prepared music.

Ø       concentrate on style, tone quality, intonation, articulation, blend, and balance relevant to each work.

  

Assignments

Students are required to practice all assigned parts and may be asked to perform her/his part during rehearsal.

 

Grading

 

(A+) Demonstrates exceptional skill and musicality. Always on time, prepared for rehearsal and has a sense of ownership and pride in the ensemble.

(A) Demonstrates excellent skill and musicality. Always on time, prepared for rehearsal and has a sense of ownership and pride in the ensemble. 

(B+) Demonstrates average skill and musicality. Always on time, prepared for rehearsal and has a sense of ownership and pride in the ensemble.

(B) Demonstrates average skill and musicality. Occasionally late, and unprepared for rehearsal, but has a sense of ownership and pride in the ensemble.

(C) Demonstrates average skill and musicality. Occasionally late, unprepared and has no sense of ownership or pride in the ensemble.  

(D) Fails to demonstrate average skill and musicality. Occasionally late, unprepared and has no sense of ownership or pride in the ensemble.
